She fell in love with France, French food, and France’s rich historical, cultural, and artistic heritage at the age of 16 and since then has lived and traveled extensively all over France. The birth of Les Liaisons Délicieuses in 1994 was a dream come true for Patti which she loves to share with fellow gourmets and Francophiles. In 2004, Patti was named a Chevalière de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole by the government of France for her work in educating Americans about French agricultural products.
Robin Guerry moved to France with her family at the age of 10 and quickly fell in love with coq au vin, escargots, and meringues. Her knowledge and love of French food, France, and the French language has greatly increased through the years. Robin is now a sophisticated and passionate cook, gracious hostess, and is thrilled to be visiting her beloved France frequently as a Les Liaisons Délicieuses trip leader.
Christel Phipps lifelong passion is French cuisine. This has led her to innumerable cooking classes and extended stays in France. Her schooling was in Geneva, Switzerland, and she has a BA in French and an MA in French History. For the last 30 years she has lived in Boston where she received another degree in Interior and Architectural Design and has imported French country antiques.
Anne-Lise Auclair-Jones is French, married to an American. She grew up and was educated in France and currently shares her life between London, Paris, and Washington. After a successful career as a translator at the International Monetary Fund, she has found in Les Liaisons Délicieuses the ideal way to pursue her lifelong interests in cooking, travel and cross-cultural relationships. Brought up in France, Isabelle de Zamaróczy was born into a family steeped in the rich culinary traditions of Normandy, where family meals were treated as sacred. She came to the United States in 1987 with her husband and raised her four children. She pursued her childhood interest in working at l’Academie de Cuisine in Bethesda. When her husband’s job led them to Cambodia, she was able to discover the novelties of Asian cuisine. Her hope is to introduce others to the French culinary heritage and hospitality à la française.
Vickie Reh’s interest in French cooking began with her first French cookbook purchase at the age of 15. The book was on sale for $1 and still has a place of honor on her bookshelf. Vickie majored in French in college, studying abroad at the Sorbonne the summer of her sophomore year and completing an exchange program in Bordeaux the year after graduation. She felt immediately at home in France and has returned many times since. An avid amateur cook and a complete Francophile, Vickie currently works as a wine consultant and food buyer at Arrowine, a fine independent wine and gourmet food shop in Northern Virginia. One of the perks of her job is the opportunity to travel on wine trips to France. As a trip leader for Les Liaisons Delicieuses, she invites you to join her on a French food and wine adventure.
Dear Fellow Gourmet Traveler:
My favorite childhood stories were of my great-great grandfather, a painter in Paris during the reign of Napoleon III. At 15, I set off for a summer in France, the first of many journeys to the country that has become my second home.
In 1993, my family and I lived in Paris for a year. There I pursued my passion for French food and wine by becoming the first non-professional American to work with various Michelin-starred chefs in their restaurant kitchens. As the year unfolded, these chefs, their families, and friends became my good friends. Upon my return to the United States, fueled by the thrill of sharing behind-the-scenes culinary adventures, I created Les Liaisons Délicieuses.
Les Liaisons Délicieuses creates rich and complete itineraries for small groups of 8 to 10 people. I coordinate all cooking classes, demonstrations, and visits to vineyards and farms with chefs and their friends. The extraordinary chefs I select are from every region of France. Because I have worked in all of their kitchens, I know first hand that they are superb teachers who are willing to share their secrets and who relish the opportunity to show my guests everything they consider special about their corner of the country. All levels of cooking ability are welcome, including the non-cook who appreciates wonderful food and wine, and revels in the drama of the kitchen!
We handle every detail with elegance and style, from the luxurious accommodations and meals, to the aprons and carefully translated recipes. After working in the kitchen or watching a demonstration, we remove our aprons and enjoy lunch or dinner in the dining room as special friends of the chef.
Les Liaisons Délicieuses has hosted a wide range of men and women of all ages who are looking for an educational experience with food and wine, and a connection with others who share their interests. My trip leaders and I are all good cooks, gracious hostesses, and ardent Francophiles fluent in French. The chefs and their friends open their kitchens, their homes, and their hearts. Because everyone involved shares a passion for food and wine, my trips feel like an opportunity for good friends to get to know each other better in exquisitely enticing settings.
f you are passionate about food and wine and desire an intimate experience with the local culture, join us on one of our unique journeys into the heart and soul of France, Canada, Morocco, and soon Vietnam. I promise you the memories of a lifetime!
I look forward to hearing from you.
